more than 20 years of teaching expertise
“Teaching the future generation of musicians is my passion.”
Theresa Britt is an accomplished music educator based in the Texas Hill Country, specializing in violin and string orchestra instruction. She serves as a teacher for the Hill Country Youth Orchestras, an adjunct professor of violin at Schreiner University, and maintains a large private studio in Fredericksburg and Kerrville.
Theresa earned her Master’s Degree in Violin Pedagogy from Texas Tech University in 2012 and her Bachelor of Music with teacher certification from the same institution in 2007. She studied under Dr. Kirsten Yon during her time at Texas Tech.
Previously, Theresa served as the orchestra director at Atkins Middle School in Lubbock, Texas, and was a master teacher for the Texas Tech University String Project. She also taught Suzuki group classes for the Suzuki Talent Education of the Lubbock Region and was a violin coach for the Lubbock Youth Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she has been an adjunct faculty member at Angelo State University and conductor of the Fredericksburg Community Orchestras.
Theresa’s interest in the Suzuki Method grew out of the alignment between Shinichi Suzuki’s educational philosophy and her own beliefs about teaching. She has completed Suzuki teacher training in Violin Volumes 1 through 8 and Suzuki in Schools, studying with leading educators including Beverly De la Bretonne, Sue Baer, Laurie Scott, William Dick, and others.
She is an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association and the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
To continue her own growth as a musician, Theresa regularly attends festivals such as the Taneycomo Festival, Hot Springs Music Festival, and the International Music Academy in Pilsen, Czech Republic. She has also participated in the Starling-Delay Symposium at the Juilliard School, observing masterclasses with renowned teachers and student artists. As a performer, Theresa has played with ensembles such as the San Angelo Symphony, Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale, Plainview Symphony, Symphony of the Hills in Kerrville, Brazos Valley Symphony, and Mid-Texas Symphony, in addition to various church orchestras.
Theresa began studying the violin at age 9 in Amarillo, Texas, and later expanded her musical interests by studying flute through high school. At Palo Duro High School, she was both drum major of the band and concertmaster of the orchestra. While she ultimately focused on violin as her primary instrument, she continues to enjoy exploring a variety of musical styles. In addition to being an active fiddler, singer, and amateur guitarist, she collects vinyl records, particularly those of American roots music, violin works, and chamber music.
As a passionate fiddler, Theresa performs with numerous bands and arranges her own music. She also participates in fiddle and Texas-style guitar accompaniment classes and has attended the Elmore Fiddle Camp and Montana Fiddle Camp Western Swing Weekend.
